Hmm

Forged documents used for the 60 minutes program last night?

I think the case is weak, but people seem to be looking into it.

of course the case is weak, as it's not being made by the MSM.

" the user was required to type everything twice. While typing the text the first time, the machine would measure the length of the line"

Yes. Hardly seems like the kind of typewriter used by the military.

This case for forgery is becoming just about conclusive. Go back to the Powerline link or take a take a look at this http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12526_Bush_Guard_Documents-_Forged
Basically, when the text of the CBS documents are typed into Microsoft WORD using a 12pt Times Roman font and default margains and tabs, the text in WORD and the CBS documents line up exactly. Every line ends on the same exact word and the same exact space on the WORD document (using its automatic text wrapping) and on the CBS original documents. This seems like a highly unlikely coincindence to me. The most likely explanation is that the CBS documents were created with WORD, not an early 1970's typewriter.

drudge has picked it up, so forget about accessing powerline.

Drudgealanche!

Paul, I saw the LGF post, and one other post somewhere else along those lines. I think being able to reproduce it in Word is still only suggestive. The greatest single pieces of evidence, I think, are the superscript "th" and the gentleman who says military paper at the time was 8"x10.5", rather than 8.5"x11".

But it certainly looks more solid than when I originally posted this.

i think the kerning and other typesetting issues are pretty convincing, as well

and i was thinking it's "drudgebomb"

Forget trying to hit that powerlineblog link. Between Drudge and LGF links, it'll take a century to load. This is a very interesting story indeed. I'm really curious to see how it plays itself out. Plus, if it turns out to be true, I cannot wait to see how CBS and 60 Minutes are going to wiggle out an explanation...

Emily,

They'll probably do what AP and Knight-Ridder did about the Clinton applause hoax: forget it ever happened.

Nothing in the MSM about this yet...so far it's just a blog meme...waiting...waiting...

New York Times v. Sullivan notwithstanding, if CBS continues to go with this despite all the evidence of fraud, it sounds like an easy libel suit to me. I don't think GWB would sue, but I sure would love to see it happen.
