Why headline writers need editors

Tim Blair notes one example. Foxnews has another (on the link, not the story itself):

Iraq Blast kills 25
Australian hostage freed
Come to think of it, the headline on the story itself isn't much better:
Hostage Freed; Iraqi Authorities Attacked

The Fox blurb is currently: "Australian Hostage Rescued, Iraq attacks kill 38". Sadly, that's a lot of Australian hostages that didn't make it.

But who is this "kill 38" and why did Iraq attack him?

Not sure who "kill 38" is - exactly - but I sincerely hope Iraq continues to attack him... along with "kill 1", kill 2", "kill 3" and so on.
