D-Day

I don't have anything put together, but I know others will. I will supply links as I come across them. Meantime, a moment of silence, please, in memory of Bloody Omaha.

George Moneo has Eisenhower's Great Crusade* message to the assault force (thanks Val!)

Smash does too.

Blackfive has a link-filled post

THS has some vintage pictures posted.

A more personal post from RantSpace

Another from the Uzzman

*Message to anyone offended by use of the phrase "Great Crusade": Fuck you.

Ken,

It's just like you to stoke the historical fires of Fascophobia. Fascism was a Philosophy of Peace which had been hijacked by a few Nazi extremists, who in no way represented the views of the vast majority of ordinary, decent Fascists.

D-Day was scheduled for the 5th, my birthday, but had to be postponed.

Damned weather, stole my thunder.

I blogged about it as well...my dad went into Normandy on this day 62 years ago...he made it all the way to the Battle of the Bulge and was then captured by the Nazis in Belgium. My mom said he RARELY spoke about his experience on D-Day...I'm sure for good reason.

God bless them all!!!
