Oprah is not a lesbian.
Some will be relieved, some will be disappointed, but I'm sure that none will be unmoved by this revelation.

Well, not entirely true. Moved to kitchen to get more juice.
Posted by: Susanna at July 18, 2006 06:59 AMKen,
You forgot to mention that Oprah said if she were a lesbian she'd tell everyone because she thinks there's nothing wrong with being gay. That's like the most important part.
(Seriously, were people saying she was gay before? Because this is the first I've heard of it.)
Posted by: Emily at July 18, 2006 06:59 AMI notice that, whatever she may say, nobody's jumping on a couch about her.
Posted by: Nightfly at July 18, 2006 07:10 AMOh, yes, there have been long-standing gay rumors about Oprah.
She has this man, to whom she has been engaged for about a hundred years.
And she has this friend, female, with whom she spends lots and lots of time and they wear matching diamond pinky rings and yada yada yada.
And you know, since Oprah is "our" savior or whatever, people pay lots of attention that that shit.
My father-in-law, who is very well-known and respected neurologist (worldwide) has said this about her, has said she is a, "moron." I think that may have been about the Texas cattle thing.
He has also made armchair clinical assessments with the assistance of Dr. Single Malt about Jane Fonda. He pronounced her "a retard."
Like I said, he is world-reknowned for his expertise.
Posted by: Susanna at July 18, 2006 07:40 AMWho is Oprah?
Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at July 18, 2006 07:40 AMFirst I've ever heard of it too. And I was moved to go get some more coffee. But not so much as to jump on furniture or quote "Seinfeld".
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at July 18, 2006 07:44 AMI think Susanna's father-in-law should have his own show.
Posted by: Cullen at July 18, 2006 08:08 AMJeff,
She's just this fat chick with a TV show. Because she hugs her guests a lot, people think she's the pillar of sensitivity. She also tells people to read books so apparently she's also really smart too. I wouldn't really know, since I pretty much consider every show of hers I've watched a punishment of sorts and try to block it out of my mind.
I can't believe Susanna just now found her way here. I swear I gave her the link YEARS AGO.
Ohy good, now I don't have to remove the Oprah posters I have plastered all over my room, or the shrine I built...
Posted by: DirtCrashr at July 18, 2006 08:27 AMAnd you would if she were a lesbian, Dirt? My god, what kind of person are you?!?!?
Posted by: Emily at July 18, 2006 08:36 AMWhile I'm not a fan of the show, I will admit that I have a lot of respect for Oprah. She pulled herself out of the gutter, out of poverty, through sheer force of will, determination, and used her dreams and visions to become a media juggernaut.
Since then she's never talked about how she was kept down by "the man." She's a strong advocated of self reliance and personal responsibility.
She personafies the American Dream. I am not going to cut down anyone for that.
And that's all I ever care to say about Oprah.
Posted by: Cullen at July 18, 2006 09:13 AMI will parrot what Cullen has said. Can't argue with a bit of that. I give her credit for that.
After all, she is "The Man" now. Heh.
But a good friend of mine is a *professional* makeup artist (like one of the ones that gets $3000 to show up and paint faces and has authored two books and has a QVC line in the works - does not work for Oprah) and frequently talks about the subtleties of Oprah's "look."
She talks about Oprah's "serious hair." Like she'll have her hair done in a very polished, mature way when she's going to talk about, say, the cattle industry in Texas. (which prompted my father-in-law to diagnose her a "moron") Or child predators. Or similar.
And then she has her "you so crazee girl" hair for those days when she is talking about her dogs and eyebrow waxing.
So funny. Kim will say, "and then she puts on her serious hair..."
Posted by: Susanna at July 18, 2006 09:23 AMI now know far more about Oprah than I ever feared possible.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at July 18, 2006 09:30 AMCullen,
I don't begrduge her any of her success. She's worked hard for it and earned it.
As for her never claiming to be "kept down," for the most part, she hasn't. But let's not forget the time she showed up disheveled to a French department store after hours demanding that they accomodate her. When she wasn't recognized, she claimed she was refused because she was black. Whatever.
I only take issue with the fact that she's worshipped as this beacon of truth and intelligence when she's the person who virtually invented trash television. I'll give her credit for reconsidering her format since then, but not much more than that. This is a woman whose "thoughtful" guests on the subject of civic responsibility include Cameron Diaz passionately arguing that people who think rape is cool shouldn't vote.
Posted by: Emily at July 18, 2006 09:35 AMWell, it is TV. For any good example within the medium that you can point out, there will be plenty of vapidity there.
No one's life is going to look good all the time when it's viewed through a magnifying glass.
Posted by: Cullen at July 18, 2006 09:49 AM"She's just this fat chick with a TV show."
Oh, that fat chick! Made lots of money by telling people what they want to hear .I haven't watched daytime TV in years, but I do recall her from back when, and more recent comments on this blog.
Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at July 18, 2006 12:00 PMI'm the kind of person who never watched cable TV...
"Oh, that fat chick"
Jeff, be sure you're not confusing her with Kirstie Alley, who simply stayed fat. Oprah kinda yoyoed, I hear.
Also, I think Oprah was the one that launched Dr. Phil on an unsuspecting world. That erases any possible good she may have accomplished and pushes her far toward the "people who should be poked with a sharp stick" category.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at July 18, 2006 09:03 PMYeh Dr. Phil is her boy-toy, part of her media empire - she's constantly grooming another homunculus to unleash.
Posted by: DirtCrashr at July 19, 2006 11:03 AMA rat's ass.
I couldn't give.
