I know it's old, but here's my map of the countries I've visited:

Here's the visited US states map (and as above, just passing through an airport doesn't count):

Since Ernesto was a joke, I have no worries about whether I'll be flying to DC tomorrow or not, but these maps make me want to travel more, and to places where I haven't been already.
Posted by Dave J at August 30, 2006 09:19 AM | TrackBack (0) |WTF? They have Turkey listed as the Middle East.
Posted by: Brian B at August 30, 2006 09:24 AMWell, it sort of is. Only 5% of it is in Europe, although that's the 5% I've actually been to. I mean, it's a majority-Muslim country that borders Iraq and Syria, so I'd count Turkey as part of the Middle East.
Posted by: Dave J at August 30, 2006 09:34 AMYeah, but that 5% geographically contains most of the Turkish population, and *THEY* would object to being called "Middle Eastern". I'm guessing we've been to the same part of Turkey.
Posted by: Brian B at August 30, 2006 09:40 AMThey don't call Turkey the Sick Man of the Middle East, do they?
My map would be fairly boring - the USA. Then I could fill in all the countries I've fantasized about visiting, perhaps a lovely shade of green...
Posted by: Nightfly at August 30, 2006 09:44 AMAndorra is a country I desperately want to mark off on my world map. Mine has much less red than yours, but I think I'd be fairly satisfied if I got to visit Andorra.
I see you don't have West Virginia marked off. It's within driving distance of DC if you get bored on your trip. I would also suggest Oklahoma. Much better than Texas. :) And if you go north, Wisconsin really is a very pretty state. Montana is also beautiful.
Posted by: Bitter at August 30, 2006 09:48 AMMy world map is kinda lame, other than north america and the carribean, I've been nowhere, man.
Posted by: KG at August 30, 2006 09:56 AMMy foreign countries visited is pretty limited:
Mexico
Canada
Germany
Great Britain (but limited to five hours in Heathrow)
And technically, France (a couple of hours trying to get the hell out of Strasbourg)
My countries visited map looks kind of impressive until you realize just how much terrtory the US, Canada, Russia, and the PRC take up. If you were to map the places visited in those countries, my map would be a lot less impressive - Ontario and Quebec, Russia to the Urals, Beijing and Hong Kong from the non-US big ones.
Posted by: John at August 30, 2006 10:52 AMThere's plenty of places I haven't been to in the US, places that qualify as countries IMO, like Alaska or Florida - and only a tiny bit of Canada that was BC, and Cabo is not Mexico either...
Posted by: DirtCrashr at August 30, 2006 10:59 AMDirtCrashr, from my own experience Florida is at least THREE countries, probably more like five. ;-)
Posted by: Dave J at August 30, 2006 11:13 AMHawaii should be out there under "Australia and Pacific," and Hong-Kong should have it's own blip.
My map.
I'm very surprised Hong Kong doesn't have its own blip, though I checked and you're right, it doesn't. So should Macao. I mean, they give the Channel Islands and the Faeroe Islands separate representation, although, oddly, not the Isle of Man despite the fact its status vis-a-vis the UK is essentially the same as the principal bailliwicks of the Channel Islands, Jersey and Guernsey.
Posted by: Dave J at August 30, 2006 02:41 PMIf China has its way there won't be a blip for Taiwan either.
Posted by: DirtCrashr at August 30, 2006 04:59 PMI use the map generator to mark countries represented by my blogroll.
Only foreign country I've visited is Mexico - high school field trip to Nuevo Laredo.
Posted by: Alan K, Henderson, Parole Officer to the Stars at August 30, 2006 09:52 PMUh, I think the handback to Commies eliminated Hong Kong's blip. Didn't Macao get handed back too?
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at August 31, 2006 08:07 AMAnd Alan, that's a great idea!
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at August 31, 2006 08:08 AMThe guilt-trip Brits gave Hong Kong away, but it's still not all of China. Like if someone from Germany visited only New York... But of course Germans being who they are, they couldn't *just* visit one place, they'd have to rent Harleys and drive across America playing out Easy Rider fantasies until they got to Beach Boy land...
