Jeez

What is it with dogs and slippers?

At least it's not your hand. My co-worker's dog is big on the biting. My hand still has red teeth marks from playing with her on Monday.

How about dogs and carpets? And I don't mean chewing! My cousin has a puppy that isn't completely house broken.......

Carpets are passive, but slippers, especially fuzzy ones, seem to drive them nuts.

My parents' little pup likes to whisk away with shoes...and only chew out the inside soles. I kid you not. He will manage to pull them out and chew them into confetti and leave the entire rest of the shoe otherwise intact.

Feet are the most "smelly" part of your body. That's why bloodhounds can track your footprints. So obviously shoes (especially slippers that warm your feet and make them sweat) are so attractive to your pupper.
But you also must understand that dog behavior comes from wolves, and the wolf mom leaves little bones and stuff on the floor of the den for the pups to chew on. So in your dog's mind, floor = dog stuff. If you keep your slippers off the floor, your problem will be solved.
(Info courtesy of Desmond Morris in "Dogwatching"-- a fascinating book.)

Bitter,
A helpful hint for teething/biting puppies (and dogs).
Whenever anyone is playing with your friend's dog and feels teeth, instantly say "OUCH!" in a high-pitched "yip" kind of voice. This is the sound another dog would make, and the puppy will recognize that and know it's made a mistake. But you have to do it EVERY TIME, right after you feel the teeth, and yes, it has to be that high-pitched voice.
:-)

Wily's not a pup, and he doesn't go after shoes or socks or other objects with the same gusto, but MAN he wanted to go after the fuzzy slippers.

Oh, you didn't say FUZZY slippers!
I'll bet his previous owners gave him stuffed animals as chew-toys.

Huh-huh. Ken wears fuzzy slippers.
