Dog people vs. cat people

It's true. There are dog people and cat people, and they tend not to mix.

I'm a dog person. I rarely have much affinity for cats. But, and I will be the first to admit it, there are exceptions.

Anybody else in the mood for some swing music?

Cat person. If I want an animal that needs me to help it take a shit, I'll have another kid.

If I want an animal that walks in it's own toxic waste, kills wild birds for fun, needs me to pick up and dispose of it's shit and piss or kills plant life directly with it's waste, will not make a sound when a stranger approaches my property, only loves me as long as I'm feeding it, cannot operate a dog door, cannot be trained to make my life more enjoyable, cannot be trusted or does not want to accompany me when I take a walk outside, to the park, cafe, or a trip in the car, regurgitates balls of body hair onto my carpet at will and kills babies by smothering them then I guess I'll get a cat.

Actually, I'm both a cat person and a dog person. They both fulfill different needs in my life. Right now thought I'm dogless, and I do feel like there's a hole in my life.

I'm both as well, although I lack any pets at this time (job, remodeling, etc). Growing up, my family always had 2-3 dogs and a cat in the house.

Just don't forget: with dogs, we are the masters. When it comes to cats....they are the masters.

I like dogs. There's just no way I can give a dog the attention that it needs. I have enough trouble coping with cats.

I've met a grand total of 3 cats I've liked. If I wanted to deal with haughty disregard, I'd have more female friends.

I've got 4 dogs at the moment. 2 german shepards and 2 golden retrievers. They are a blast. And I dare anyone to come into my house uninvited. Seriously. After the Shepard mauled you, the goldens would lick you to death. :P

I have 3 cats. I wonder what haughty disregard would be like. Can't sit down for 15 minutes without finding one draped over me. This afternoon Molly and I watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "I, Robot" together (oddly, both have a cat in them) and when my husband gets home from the video place we're going to watch back-to-back "Alien" and "Aliens" (ditto) and I expect to find her back in my lap.

And I wrote here about how our tomcat saved the house from possibly flooding, although to be accurate, he probably wasn't so much worried about the house flooding as he was just wanting the status quo maintained. You know, things are supposed to be a Certain Way, and it's our job to keep them like that.

I'm with Laura. I *wish* for some Haughty Disregard.

After being away from him for six days, the Captain has not left my side since we arrived home yesterday. If I have the temerity to get up from the couch, he howls in protest and then follows me around the house, even into the bathroom, where he jumped up in my lap while I was on the toilet.

Um, this has been a great discussion and all, but did anyone actually click through?

Heh. Clearly not.

I clicked, it's a cute kitty - but if you don't put out the tin-of-tuna, the cat will eat-out his eyeballs and then go for the liver and pop him when the gas-builds-up.

Dogs don't have sharp retractable claws - enough said.

I used to think I was not a dog person until I decided to adopt a dog - and it was love at first sight. He is the best canine pet one could ever wish for.

But I also love cats because they appeal to the same weirdness that has me considering taking an online heiroglyphic course - fortunately the cat I have now is a real lover-boy (such as he is with certain...erm...requirements missing)

Ive also had dogs that I just couldnt stand, no matter how hard I tried to connect with them.

I have met a few cats who earned the moniker of 'haughty' but most of the time it has been 'indifference' that has plagued me.

The only other cat that I truly miss is a Red Point Persian male whose tail draped over his back (he was born with the tail like that). He kept me good company the five months my husband was working out of the country (hed come home for a long weekend ever three weeks) - I remember him sitting on the floor at my feet, holding forth with several sincere 'conversations' with me (Id ask a question and he'd 'meow', quite often with different intonations.) He was a bit more aloof than my current cat, but he was a good companion on evenings when I had no one to talk to.

The Persian cat sat on the floor...not my hubby....sheesh...its two thirty in the morning...go to bed Sharon!

Of course I clicked, Ken! But cats are always playing with dangling things, so I just noted swatting at Saddam's legs under "Business as usual".

I like the music those chimes play.
