Answer: E, apparently, though I'm usually skeptical about quotes coming from "a source close to the actor."

Right about what? Psychiatry? Thetans? Dancing in your underwear?

Aren't we tired of him yet? And why hasn't Nicole Kidman sued him for sole custody of their kids? It's like she sacrified them to get out of that marriage. Sad.

I'm going to start using that formulation. "Like Christ, I've never eaten at Long John Silver's. But future generations will realize I'm right about Highlander."

I think someone said the same thing about Trofim Lysenko.

Perhaps we need to end the madness now and develop a variant of Godwin's Law* for people "close to someone" comparing that someone to Christ....

I mean, I could compare myself to Christ in a way or two (mostly in the sense of things neither of us experienced, as in marc's "never eaten at Long John Silver's"), but I have a way too realistic opinion of myself to ever DO it.

Ken,
That's a more apt comparison to Cruise...after all, people wouldn't criticize the guy for ages when he was working under Stalin for fear of fascist retribution. Kind of like the Clams.

Ricki,
That's pretty much been an unwritten law for me. Comparing yourself to Christ makes someone in my book either batshit or an unbelievably huge egomaniac.

Posted by: Emily at January 23, 2007 09:18 AM

personally, if I ever did it, I'd hope that it was because I was batshit. Egomaniacs really rub me the wrong way.

Posted by: ricki at January 23, 2007 09:21 AM

Uh, Tom - when an ad-hoc coalition of Hare Krishnas and IRS agents execute you in public between Eric Rudolph and OJ Simpson, then maybe you'll have some sort of basis for comparison. 'Kay?

Posted by: Nightfly at January 23, 2007 09:23 AM

NF,
To be as fair as I can muster when it comes to that shitstain, it wasn't Cruise himself making the comparison, but he's self-absorbed and not really worthy of his excessive confidence on certain subject matters, so I wouldn't really doubt it if he himself saw some similarities.

Posted by: Emily at January 23, 2007 09:27 AM

Damn, I was going to say it was a quote from Mel Gibson.......

Posted by: Julie at January 23, 2007 10:11 AM

Emily - so noted.

Please, everyone, mentally replace "Uh, Tom" with "Pathetic enablers" and "you" with "Uh, Tom." Or maybe just "Tom." Something like that.

Much thanks.

Christ was taller. And he never danced in his underwear. Mostly, it must be admitted, because underwear hadn't been invented yet.

Man, I just saw this. It boggles the mind.

Ha! I just read the second comment on the article!

Dear Ruler of God's creation, I truly believe in you. You have performed a miracle no man could have achieved. To take the virginity of the blessed and beautiful Katie Holmes required an act of the Almighty himself. Preach to me Tom, I am an eternal follower of you and every step you take, I too would like to learn the secret of taking young Hollywood actresses for the first time.

Ken,
I know! Isn't that hilarious?

Mojo,
According to Wikipedia (which doesn't really mean too damn much), that's not exactly true.

I can't believe I actually Googled "underwear." That's usually Ken's department.

He needs to validate the comparison - I've got a couple 2x4's and some nails, this will be fun.

Doesn't he need to validate the comparison? I've got a couple 2x4's and some nails, this'll be fun - really.

I call dibs on Cruise for Fuck Off Friday...

Posted by: Hoodlumman at January 23, 2007 12:37 PM

Hoodlum,
Hahahaha. Every day is "Fuck Off Tom Cruise" Day around here.

Posted by: Emily at January 23, 2007 12:39 PM

Notice Tom Cruise is sucking up to David Beckham. That will end badly we can all hope.
