So the ChiComs are caving too

Apparently, they are downplaying the year of the PIG for fear of offending Muslims.

One should point out that not only do Muslims have problems with PIGS, but they also have problems with DOGS, which will, obviously, have to be censored next time that year comes around.

I think they may also have issues with MONKEYS. I don't know how they feel about the rest of the Chinese zodiac but I'm sure someone will come up with something to bitch about.

For some reason, I have a special urge to link to this. Take that, Porkyphobes.

I'm not sure the Chicoms are caving. They wouldn't do that in the face of the Uighur threat in Xinjiang. They tend to settle disturbances there with gunpowder, not multi-culti BS.

Since the firms involved are foreign, I think it more likely that someone forgot to grease the right palm and some clever Commie bureaucrat dreamed this up as a public excuse, because Chinese firms aren't cutting back on the pig advertising.

In any event, I'm about to cook a pound of bacon for breakfast.

I also find reports on this to be missing something. It's unlikely that China is really afraid enough of their Muslim minority to want to appease them in any way. The Chinese authorities have had no trouble crushing any sort of complaint in the past; they're not a democracy after all, and don't have an electorate to appease. And pork and Chinese go together like horse and carriage -- I don't see them giving a rat's ass what some Muslim in Uighur thinks of a picture of a pig. It's more likely that reports of this are either garbled or there is something else going on.
