Blast from the past

Here's a weird blast from the past. Anybody out there remember "Porklips Now"?

Are you telling stories about your memories of the Civil War again, Ken?

No, it was Cambodia. But they didn't give me a fucking hat.

Porklips Now sounds like a skit from the Muppet Show.

(checking Wikipedia)

Never heard of it, but I do have another parody film, Hardware Wars, on VHS.

I had to google that one Ken, I must have missed that parody. Or at least I think I missed it. 1980 was right in the middle of my Dennis Hopper stage.

It was a Showtime or HBO parody, broadcast immediately before Apocalypse Now when it was first shown on TV (I forget which network - I was visiting someone who subscribed). It was actually very funny.

I don't know what exactly you found on google and wikipedia (where I now see that it may not have been produced specially for the network as I thought it had been), but if none of your links explained the title, anybody want to guess what it means?

Oh, and BTW, the William Gray listed as the main character is the same Billy Gray from "Father Knows Best".

Not on your life...and what is this "Father Knows Best" that you speak of?

[I know you're joshing but] An old TV show from before you were born. Hell, from before I was born. And before Robert Young became a doctor.

Artfully parodied here, by the way.

Oh my goodness. I am going to laugh about that one for ages. "My Dennis Hopper stage."

At one time there was a compilation tape (to give you an idea how long ago "at one time" is, I had it on Beta) which contained both Hardware Wars and Porklips Now, the brilliant creations of Ernie Fosselius, plus the sillier Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind and the ineffable Marv Newland masterpiece Bambi Meets Godzilla.
