I hadn't heard this. Vilma Ebsen died recently. I guess that explains the recent posts by Instapundit and Ann Althouse. I had kind of assumed she'd died years ago.
I haven't seen much of their dance work (like Glenn Reynolds, I know Buddy Ebsen mostly from "The Beverly Hillbillies", though I've seen a few clips of Buddy and Vilma as well as Buddy alone). But the videos that Althouse has in the post are amazing. And that first clip reminded me how talented Shirley Temple was as a small child (about 6 or 7 in that clip, I think).

I heard in the CCCP version of The Flintstones Fred's wife actually married Barney.
So her name was Vilma Ruble.
Sorry, the comment above made me do that.
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at April 14, 2007 11:48 AMI saw Buddy Ebsen in a restaurant in Newhall in the 70's. My gosh that man was tall. (He didn't appear to be that tall on "Barnaby Jones" because Lee Meriweather was also tall.)
I always try to imagine him as the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz. He was supposed to play that part, but the aluminum paint caused an allergic reaction in his lungs and he almost died.
He was one hell of a dancer.
He was originally cast as the Scarecrow but swapped with Ray Bolger who was to be the Tin Woodsman. I never thought anyone could do the Scarecrow like Bolger but after those clips, I could see Ebsen doing it too.
