No plumbing sucks more.

My dad told me as a kid that plumbers and painters were nothing but drunks. I asked him why he thought that and he said, "No sober person would willingly do either of those jobs."

My limited experience with plumbing makes me think he was on to something. My many years of painting experience has taught me that a beer or six goes down mighty easily after a hard day of painting.

My dad is a genius.

"No plumbing sucks more"

Well, there's that, which is why I don't complain too vociferously, and why I was working on it.

Wunderkraut, I think your dad was too harsh on the professions. Except for cleaning out drains, which I was doing today, I pay professionals to do it because they know how to do it efficiently and well. If I knew how to do such things correctly (i.e., efficiently and well), I wouldn't mind getting paid $60 per hour to do it. The problem is that, as an amateur, I end up doing the same job for sub-minimum wage plus gasoline for the several trips to the hardware store.

Actually, in some ways, I'm a little weird. I'll do pretty much anything once because I find it interesting to learn (or figure out how to do) something new. After that, I'll pay someone who knows what s/he's doing to do it right.

Of course, the other reason I pay professionals to do it is that I have reached a stage in my life at which I refuse to accept substandard work.
