Chinese Crested-Chihuahua mix named world's ugliest dog

PETALUMA, California (AP) — Elwood, a 2-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, was crowned the world's ugliest dog, a distinction that delighted the mutt's owners.

Elwood, dark colored and hairless — save for a mohawk-like puff of white fur on his head — is often referred to as "Yoda," or "ET," for his resemblance to those famous science fiction characters.

He makes them look like Adonises:

But here's the frightening part:

Quigley brought Elwood out to compete for the second year at the annual ugly dog contest at the Marin-Sonoma County Fair on Friday. Elwood placed second last year.
Holy shit. That's scary.

Second place last year? Rosie must have been entered into the contest. To be fair, most of her ugliness comes from the inside, but enough seeps through to make the outside pretty repellant as well.

Damn - is that thing a purebred? As in, people pay $500 and up for puppies?

(And that tongue is just scary; can he even pull it into his mouth?)

I dunno; I guess I'd rather have some mixed-breed from the Humane Society....

It's a mixed breed, half Chinese crested, half chihuahua. It's a popular mix for people who love dogs but have allergies, because they lack dander. And the tongue hanging out is a common birth defect in one of those breeds, I've seen dogs like this before.

So ugly, it's cu... No, no it's not.
