I'm a Thompson supporter. Cullen linked to this interesting and amusing Candidate Calculator. A little surprising on a few items:
Your Top Match
You planned to vote for Fred Thompson. Based on your responses, your top candidate for 2008 is below.

Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R)
91.18% match
Cool.
The unpleasant stuff was partly this:
Your Other Top Matches
You will want to pay close attention to these candidates through election day.
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 80.39%
California Representative Duncan Hunter (R) - 77.45%
Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo (R) - 77.45%
Ick. Don't much like any of them.
Middle of the Pack
If your top choices aren't in the running, keep an eye on these candidates in 2008.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) - 72.55%
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) - 71.57%
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback (R) - 66.67%
Texas Representative Ron Paul (R) - 64.71%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 63.73%
Businessman John Cox (R) - 54.90%
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) - 41.18%
Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 33.33%
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 29.41%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 28.43%
Hmm. Would have hoped that all of these, at least the ones I've ever heard of, were in the bottom tier.
Bottom of the Barrel
You won't be getting on the campaign trail with these candidates anytime soon.
Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 27.45%
Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 24.51%
Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) - 23.53%
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) - 15.69%
Okay, I'm at a loss to figure out what 15% of the issues I could possibly agree with Kucinich on. Unless it's that part about "should be convicted before being sent to prison".
Posted by Ken S at October 6, 2007 02:18 PM | TrackBack (0) |I've run it twice, both times I got Ron Paul, not surprised by that as I think most all of the candidates suck ass this time around.
Some how, Tancredo comes up as my second choice and I would vote for Satan before I voted for Tancredo. I also get Kucinich at 54% and can only think that's a misprint, maybe it's 4%.
What really surprises me is that Rudy comes up at 35%, just above Hillary, Edwards, and Obama.
And who, exactly, is John Cox? Why have I not heard of this guy before?
Posted by: KG at October 6, 2007 02:26 PMOnly a 4.6% match to Kucinich, and got Fred as my guy. All is well with the world.
Posted by: Boy Named Sous at October 6, 2007 04:24 PMI came out Duncan Hunter, and only 77% with my man Mitt. (Which is OK, because some of my reasons aren't among the variables on that quiz.) I tied for second among Huckabee, Brownback and McCain, the last of which is embarrassing.
Posted by: Joel at October 7, 2007 09:47 AMI thought for sure that my choices would make it explode, like a befuddled computer in a Star Trek episode, but it gave me Giuliani. I was relieved to see that Kucinich was dead last. My other top choices were McCain, Tancredo, and Huckabee. I agree with whoever said that America was ready for a woman president, it was ready for a black madrassah-graduate president, and it was even ready for a president endorsed by Grandfather Twilight, but it was not ready for a president named Huckabee.
(I have a children's book somewhere which details the adventures of the Huckabee family. One of them found a shoe buckle inside a squash. Hilarity ensues. This has scarred me for life.)
Posted by: Angie Schultz at October 7, 2007 11:30 AMPlease shoot me now: it said Romney.
Posted by: Dave J at October 7, 2007 01:27 PMOMG, Dave. I'm so sorry.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at October 7, 2007 01:39 PMI half expect there to be one of these where everyone matches up with Romney, no matter what their positions are...
Posted by: KG at October 7, 2007 08:27 PMFormer Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R)
87.23% match
No one from Arkansas or Mass is getting my vote on principle.
And no one named 'Bush' or 'Clinton', either; I'm tired of these fucking dynasties.
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at October 8, 2007 04:45 AMI'm vaguely insulted by Bingley.
But still voting for Fred, even though the test gave me Tancredo.
Posted by: Lisa at October 8, 2007 09:36 AMIt gave me John Cox and I haven't a clue who he is. That's because I'm ignoring the 2008 election until...um...about 2008.
Posted by: Dave E. at October 8, 2007 10:05 AMhehe, I was afraid of that, Lisa.
Don't worry, my future son-in-law still gets my vote!
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at October 8, 2007 11:12 AMI planned to support Fred and matched up with him 78 percent! I took another similar quiz and it came up Romney tops and Fred second.
Posted by: Army of Mom at October 8, 2007 07:27 PMW(ho)TF is John Cox?!?!?
(Me, too, Dave.)
Posted by: tree hugging sister at October 9, 2007 07:31 AMApparently I'm in the tank for Tanc:

Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson (R) - 63.00%

Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 24.00%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 18.00%
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) - 14.00%
Must have been that "is water wet?" question that had me agree with Kucinich on anything. Then again, I'm not certain that he'd answer in the affirmative to that question. Also, I'm glad to see that the "phony, two-faced, ambulance-chasing little rat bastard" is near the bottom of the pack.
So, in short, Thompson, Giuliani and Romney are my top matches among the actual contenders.
Posted by: physics geek at October 9, 2007 10:23 AMI tied, Tancredo and Cox, 95%. Fred's at 77%, though, so I'm not displeased. My bottom four, in descending order: Dodd, Edwards, Clinton, Kucinich. That much at least soothes me. (And whodat Cox guy anyway?)
Posted by: nightfly at October 9, 2007 11:00 AM80% Ron Paul, 60% Gravel and Huckabee, 57% Tancredo.
I know squat about Gravel, don't care for Tancredo, and question Huckabee's intelligence. Your guy Fred is at 50%, he has yet to impress me.
Bottom of the barrel are Obama, Giuliani, Clinton and Edwards. I think I like Edwards the least out of them. I don't think Romney's scores should count here because his opinion will change with the latest polls.
Posted by: Tainted Bill at October 9, 2007 11:34 AM94.12% Fred Thompson.
Posted by: Val Prieto at October 9, 2007 12:52 PMhe has yet to impress me
I think my key point is that he has yet to piss me off, unlike every other name on this list except Cox. Who I've never heard of.
Seriously, who is this guy?
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at October 9, 2007 06:49 PMWell, I am generally inclined to like people who piss off James Dobson.
John Cox is someone who couldn't win the race for the office of Cook County Recorder of Deeds. He apparently thinks this makes him fit to run for President.
Posted by: Tainted Bill at October 10, 2007 05:27 AMDamn, you must like a lot of people, Bill...
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at October 10, 2007 05:45 AMThe key word is inclined, but when you combine them with the people condemned by Bill Donahue, I do like a lot of people.
