That mnemon finally kicked in

Since I read these, one of my hidden mnemons from many years ago kept trying to kick in and finally did.

When people work together, he said, there is "nothing that can stop us because that's God's intention."
and
"We're going to keep on praising together. I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth."
It kept bugging at me until finally this morning I realized the connection I was trying to make:

Barack Obama is Reverend Ike!

I didn't realize that guy was even still around. Now I'll never be able to escape that connection. :)

"I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth."

Gillespie is right. Translated to plain english from politician-speak that means "Fork it over".

In all seriousness, until I tracked down that wikipedia article for a link, I thought his stuff was strictly southern California local. I didn't realize it was a nationwide show.

Not that I ever listened to it, but it was very heavily advertised ALL OVER back in the early 70s. My favorite line from the ads was "Don't wait for pie in the sky bye and bye when you die. Get your pie now, with ice cream on top!"

(frantically scribbling)

Okay. So "It's for the children" will mean my taxes go up. "So old folks don't have to choose between buying medicine and food" means my taxes go up. And now, I have to add "Building a Kingdom here on Earth" to the list.

(Funny. When Jesus said it, it meant something different.)

God, I haven't thought of the Rev Ike in years.

I wonder if he still has the throne?...
