[UPDATE: Excellent! The entire list nailed in less than 12 hours!]
Shut up. I happen to like a lot of bland, inoffensive pop songs. Don't mock me. It hurts my feelings.
Anyway, I've leaned heavily on country music recently so today I took a 60s collection on my ride. Some good stuff on that CD, but since I don't have a lot of time to formulate questions this may be short, perhaps even sweet.
1) What will she do after singing in the sunshine? [Angie: Then she'll be on her way]
2) Who builds me up, just to let me down? [Ricki: Buttercup (why does she build me up?)]
3) You can make mountains ring or make angels cry. C'mon now, do what? [CG: Smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now]
4) I heard you're getting married. Maybe that's the best thing for you, but what is it for me? [Angie and CG: The worst that could happen to me]
5) You'll know her if you see her. Her cheeks are rosey and she looks a little nosey. When we go for a ride, I feel funny inside. Yeah, she's fine. Who is she? [CG: Sweet little Sheila]
6) Despite the fact that several things don't realize it (singing birds, beating hearts, non-crying eyes, among others) it's the end of the world. When did it end? Multiple answers entertained for this one. [Angie: It ended when you said goodbye]
7) There isn't an ocean too deep or a mountain so high it can keep me away. So what will I do? [CG: I will follow him, wherever he may go]
8) And a toughie, I think: What does "La la la la la la la la la" mean? [Ricki: It means "I love you"; and no, it's not the Chi-lites, but the Delfonics (though, truth be told, I probably wouldn't have remembered that if I didn't have the CD.]
2. Buttercup. (Cannot remember the band name, though.)
8. "I love you." (again, cannot remember the group...the Chi-Lites, maybe?)
I feel like I SHOULD know #5 but now I've got "Windy" (by the Association) stuck in my head and it's squeezing out the name of the girl in the song.
Posted by: ricki at October 13, 2007 05:12 PM2 and #8 yes. #5 no, but I love that song, and the Association may be a future quiz.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at October 13, 2007 06:40 PM1) Hmm. They'll laugh every day, then she'll be on her way? (I always thought of this as a man's song.)
4) The worst thing that ever happened to me.
6) It ended when you said good-bye.
Posted by: Angie Schultz at October 13, 2007 09:33 PM3) Come on, people, now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.
4) It's the worst that could happen.
5) Sweet little Sheila.
7) I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go; there isn't an ocean too deep, a mountain so high that can keep, keep me away, away from my love.
Posted by: CGHill at October 14, 2007 04:17 AMWell, they'd all been answered by the time I got here, but I'll give you all my support for the bland, inoffensive songs. Bubblegum, anyone?
