The World Series

The Rockies or the Red Sox? And I don't mean who do you think will win, but who you want to win.

As for me, as far as I'm concerend, both teams might as well be called "Not The Angels." I'll still watch and enjoy the games, but I don't really favor one team or the other.

(And if you don't care about baseball, don't hop to the comments to tell everyone how much you don't care. Just do what normal people who are indifferent to something do - ignore it.)

Rockies, even though they're in the same division as the Dodgers and I tend to root against those teams in the playoffs. The Red Sox just annoy the fucking hell out of me, particularly Red Sox Nation. I could devote an entire Valesque Friday Fuck Off rant about them, so fucking bad that they actually make me root for the goddamned Yankees. That's how evil they are... it's like in the cartoons when the good guy has to side with the bad guy because a bad guy who is even worse shows up to piss on everyone.

Hahaha. I honestly don't feel that Red Sox hate (Yankees hate is another thing). Maybe it's because the only Red Sox fan I've really encountered that I can remember, outside of television, is Sheila O'Malley, and she's decent about it, not agressive or entitled or anything.

I'll lean (marginally) toward the Sox, just because I like any team that irritates the Wankees.

You know, I am almost starting to hate the Red Sox as much as I hate the Yankees. Maybe even more because my team can beat the snot out of the Yankees, but they choke like pansies against the Red Sox. And Red Sox Fans are almost worse than Yankees fans. Almost.

My 6 year old son is rooting for the Rockies because of Matt Holliday. And I have a friend who lives in Colorado. And I'd LOVE to see another year where the team that barely made it to the playoffs wins it all! So...

GO ROCKS!

KG, you are now dead to me.

How's that for decent and non-aggressive, Emily? ;-)

Kelly,
I know! The Angels didn't even win one game of the series. What in the HELL was up with that?

Dave,
I don't mind any good ol' rivalry clashes or anything like that. What I cannot friggin' stand are people who show up in comments about posts on subjects they have no interest in just to dump all over everybody else by saying "I don't give a crap." For people who don't care, then shut up and go away and find something you DO care about and leave people who are interested to have their fun.

Yeah, both teams might as well be called "Not the Twins" in my case, but it does look like it could be a great World Series. I'd kind of like to see the Rockies take it, mostly because their payroll is about $90 million a year less than Boston and my default position is to root for the smaller market/payroll teams. Boston doesn't quite inspire the payroll hatred that the Yankees do, but they're working on it.

I'm leaning marginally towards the Sox because it will annoy the hell out of the thin-skinned Yankee fan in my office: the one who routinely puts "caught cheating" in parenthesis next to the Patriots on the weekly office pool. (I'm seriously considering writing "caught sucking" next to the Jets just to tick him off.)

Besides, everyone of my age knows that "Rockies" is the name of a hockey team.

Oh, and the whole "copyright Rocktober" thing was really dumb, too.

Still, if Colorado does win, that's cool. If they can hit Beckett they deserve to win.

I'm just thanking heaven that it's not the 'Stros. This town becomes downright obnoxious whenever they have even the slightest chance of winning!
Give me the days of Say-Hey Willie and freezing our asses off at the 'Stick anytime.

Apologies to the lovely Sox fans out there (like Sheila), but I must root for the Rockies this go-round.

Even though they're trying to copyright "Rocktober."

I dunno, I just have a little soft spot for the expansion teams.

Dave J - it's nothing personal. I think it was the reaction to them winning the series a few years ago. I wanted to tell Red Sox fans to act like they'd been there before, but then just as I'd open my mouth, I'd remember, "Oh yeah, they haven't."

I think what put me over the edge was going to Ye Olde Book Barn and seeing a book entitled "I Can Die Happy Now: The Red Sox Won the World Series". I've never really had the urge to burn books, until then.

KG - I can understand that feeling, though. It's been 25 years for the Isles, most of them truly craptacular. It makes me irrational. The Dodgers had '81 and '88, so maybe it's not the same for you. But what if they'd lost both of those series? What if the Giants had won five times since then and took every opportunity to rub it in your face? Short of punching half a city, there's not much you can do except celebrate when it's finally your time.

Red Sox, for they inflicted the ultimate humiliation upon the Great Satan in 2004, and I shall forever love them for it.
