Well, not so much a trivia post as an "I like beer" post.
Okay, so as far as work is concerned I'm officially on vacation as of about 7:15 this evening, roughly 14 hours after I arrived at said work. As far as home is concerned, probably not until Friday evening. That sucks like a bilge pump blows like a Santa Ana.
See, much like my little bro, I was intending to head up country in advance of deer season. Specifically tonight, that I might meet up with a far distant cousin at the ranch tomorrow. Said far distant cousin was heading back up country from the SoCal today and I was hoping to be able to give her and her hubby a tour of the ranch and environs tomorrow.
HOWever. I had some car issues this past weekend. A few things wrong with my chariot that currently only has 170,000 miles on it.
One thing is some smog-thingee sensor. No big deal. Can be fixed in no time.
Another is some axle thing. Big deal, but can be fixed in no time.
Third thing is a brake thing. Big deal, but could be fixed in no time except for the fact that the part required was in New Jersey and could not be in Kalifornia until Saturday.
That sux.
So I missed said rendezvous with said far distant cousin and we hope to reschedule a potential rendezvous for some time near Christmas when she and hubby will once again trek south to visit her FIL.
Meantime, I was fairly resigned to missing at least the first day of deer season but when I learned that the little bro may not make it for Saturday, I realized I should be there. It's not quite right that visitors of the friends and family type should not have hosts out at the ranch when they get there. So the upshot is that I will probably be taking the Sainted Bride's car up for the weekend while mine is in the shop, thence to return Sunday night and retrieve my own righteous Lesmobile sometime Monday for the return trip north. Meantime, leaving the SB with no means of transport. Well, not quite true: Daughter Number Two is coming down for the weekend to pal around and spend some quality time (and transportation) with her mama. Somebody raised that girl right, I tells ya.
Anyway, this is a longwinded way to post some C/W lyrics, lyrics that mean a lot to me at the moment. Because I'm on "vacation" and all (despite the rather long "honey do" list that I will be working on for the next two days rather than being up country on "vacation"). I think it's Tom T. Hall, not one of my favorite country singers, but this one works for me right now after a beer or five:
I like beer It makes me a jolly good fellow I like beer It helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellowWords to live by.Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much
Vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain
As a matter of fact, I like beer
And no promises, but I'll see if I can come up with some kind of trivia type thing by the time I leave for those who worry about such things.
I'm sorry you won't be there for the first day of Blow Up Bambi season :-P but I hope you get some relaxation in while you're at home.
Prithee, are you salaried, or do you have a chance at OT pay? :-)
I'll probably make it for the first day by taking the little lady's car.
But yes, I'm salaried, which means that I've been working for perhaps 60% of my nominal hourly rate for some time now. :(
