Just put down your 2x4 and walk around with one eye closed, puny earthling!
Posted by Ken S at November 14, 2007 12:54 PM | TrackBack (0) |Thanks. So you're one of those people pretending that you see those non-existent images, huh?
Posted by: physics geek at November 14, 2007 01:52 PMOf course!
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at November 14, 2007 02:11 PMphysics geek, I'll bet you don't believe in giant rabbits either, eh?
Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at November 14, 2007 03:12 PMIt always took me a lot of time to see the images in the newspaper, but it took no time to see the computer ones, once I learned the secret.
1) Do what the website tells you to do.
2) Rock your head back and forth
3) Grow really, really bored with the whole thing
4) Start thinking about something else
5) Develop a thousand-yard stare
6) Presto! The image pops right out! But don't look at it, or it'll disappear again
Here's one for you!
Posted by: Angie Schultz at November 14, 2007 06:07 PMOh, that one's the best, Angie!
It actually took me some time before I could see one of them, but once I saw the first one I can see all of them very easily. It helps that I've had a lazy eye my whole life and have acquired a rather abnormal amount of control over it.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at November 14, 2007 07:24 PMOf course I believe in giant rabbits. But I have no freakin' idea what Angie is talking about.
You folks really think that I'm pulling your leg, right?
Posted by: physics geek at November 14, 2007 08:46 PMI believe you, PG. I've never seen one of those, either, even after shelling out the bucks to buy one for my ex. I'm still not convinced there was really a picture there, despite her insistence.
Posted by: Joel at November 14, 2007 09:40 PMreminds me of the running gag in Mallrats.
Posted by: KG at November 14, 2007 09:59 PMI'm serious about the thousand yard stare. I got bored, my eyes unfocused, and I saw the picture. It helps me to rock back and forth a little. That way the 3D nature becomes apparent.
Would "Ken S. and His Lazy Eye" be a good name for a rock band? How about "Ken S. and the Abnormal Control"?
Posted by: Angie Schultz at November 14, 2007 10:34 PMBeing farsighted, a 1000 yard stare is pretty easy for me to accomplish. Wearing contacts causes a bit of a problem becaues my eyes tend to dry out. And yes, I've tried it without my contacts. I've come to the conclusion that it's like the movie "They Live". I need special sunglasses to the images.
Posted by: physics geek at November 15, 2007 05:17 AM"Ken S. and the Abnormal Control" - Actually, that would have been strangely appropriate in my last job.
PG and Joel - seriously, the one Angie linked to is the best one I've yet seen. Try this:
Print it or look at it on the computer screen.
Look at the two "Einsteins" nearest the center. It's easiest if you have a lot of control over your eyes, but the trick is to look at the one just left of center with your left eye and the one just right of center with your right eye.
Then concentrate (or maybe relax, as Angie does) until they fuse into one image, as when both eyes are looking at the same "Einstein".
It might also help to start with the picture close to your face that each eye is forced to see only one of the "Einsteins"
Use the same trick for other pictures: Find a couple of markers that can be overlapped by seeing each one with each eye.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at November 15, 2007 05:47 AMPG, those pictures are a test to diagnose that zombie disease. By openly acknowledging we don't suffer from it, we've made ourselves targets for the drones.

Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at November 15, 2007 07:21 AMI was an art student in high school when the trend exploded and I was SO embarrassed that it took me forever to get the hang of them. Of course at that time, I had no shame about standing in front of the store window in the mall for a looong time, going in close, then backing up.
Posted by: Kate P at November 15, 2007 10:31 AMJust out of sheer morbid curiosity, what exactly am I supposed to find hidden in that image? That way I'll know if and when I actually see it, instead of suffering from a hallucination.
Posted by: physics geek at November 17, 2007 11:05 AMI took off my contacts and put on my reading glasses and 20 minute later, I finally saw the magical formula. Interestingly, once I saw it, I was able to stare at the now 3-d image.
Okay, so that one was real. I still think everyone else is lying.
