But this one will be for yesterday:
Break those threads. And don't worry too much about trampling a few of the Lilliputians underfoot.Indeed. You'd be doing us all a favor. Posted by Ken S at January 21, 2008 07:53 AM | TrackBack (0) |
Jeez, nanny statism to the nth degree!
One bright spot: if they actually go through with this nonsense, and use a FM receiver, it's possible to defeat such system. Some of the options are even legal (e.g., put a Faraday cage around the FM receiver).
Not certain, of course, but certainly possible. And fun, messing with the nanny staters!
Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at January 21, 2008 08:20 AMSo you're telling me that if Ahnold is throwing a shindig at the Gov's Mansion on a hot summer day, and he lets the thermostat dip below 72 so his A-List guests don't perspire, some drudge at PG&E is going to tweak it up to 75?
Or is it just Joe Average Citizen that will get smacked?
Sounds like some sort of Ray Bradbury-story-gone-bad to me.
You know it.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at January 21, 2008 11:07 AMOf course not, Julie! Letting our betters suffer like that would be cruel. Better that the proles suffer, so that the beautiful people can think more clearly, and thus help us move into a kindler, gentler future.
Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at January 21, 2008 12:46 PMYeah, I kind of think it's Joe Average Citizen who's going to suffer.
I suppose the next thing is remote (heh) controls on our televisions, just to be sure we're not all contributing to the Obesity! Epidemic! by being couch potatoes all the time. (Or, I suppose, it could be used to "encourage" people to watch certain channels and prevent them from watching others...) Never mind that some folks watch tv while they work out...
And timers on the lights, so we don't burn too much precious energy reading or working at home after dark.
And, hell, maybe implantable devices to administer a "gentle correction" in the form of an electric shock for those who stray a bit too far off the "plantation"?

Posted by: KG at January 21, 2008 08:16 PMThey can have my thermostat when they pry it out of my cold, dead hands.
