Legos are even older than I am.

Shut up. You knew there were things older than I am. Besides dirt.

But who knew plastic predated you?
I learn sumpin' new every day!
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at January 29, 2008 04:22 AMHappy birthday Lego.
One of the best toys ever (IMHO). One of the few things that could keep both my brother and me occupied, happy, and in the same room without fighting.
Posted by: ricki at January 29, 2008 05:11 AMAnd don't you just wish you could be the one whose job it is to make these Google pictures?
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at January 29, 2008 05:28 AMIs that you on top of the "g"? Sweet.
I still have my legos, of course.
Posted by: nightfly at January 29, 2008 10:54 AMWow--I was wondering about that picture yesterday. Makes me think of my brother's space/astronaut Legos. I thought it was so cool that the bases had craters! If I know my dad and his pack rat ways, they're probably stashed away somewhere.
Of course, my younger sister had Duplos--the vacuum cleaner couldn't suck those up. After she outgrew them, I took them with me on babysitting jobs. And now my brother's kids play with them at my parents' house. (So, Ken, *I* feel old!)
Posted by: Kate P at January 29, 2008 11:14 AMYou've seen this, right? It's an incredibly detailed Lego church, complete with organ (and an explanation for why this Lego Church of Christ has one, b/c they usually eschew instrumental music) and a sermon for the Lego pastor to give.
Posted by: Laura(southernxyl) at January 29, 2008 05:26 PMLegos must have been around for about a decade before they were a fixture in our house when I was a kid. Now Lincoln Logs, those we had approximately a billion of and with six kids they were always scattered everywhere. How none of us ended up with a cracked skull from slipping on those damn things is one of the great mysteries of life.
Posted by: Dave E. at January 29, 2008 05:30 PMLaura, yes I've seen it. Very impressive, if vaguely frightening.
Dave, I never actually had Legos myself. Some kids I knew did. I had Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys, both very cool. The one I really wanted, but never got was an Erector set.
Of course, the best presents I ever got were the firearms...
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at January 29, 2008 06:04 PMSpecifically, when I was a wee snip I got this rifle, and when I was seven I got this one. I really wish I still had them.
Posted by: Ken S, Fifth String on the Banjo of Life at January 29, 2008 06:11 PMMy parents wouldn't even let me have a BB gun. Shit, they wouldn't let me have a slingshot. Of course, given that when I was about six my sibs and I would have dirt clod wars, that was probably a wise move. I did get the Erector Set for Christmas a few years later though.

A problem Ken has since rectified thanks to Canadian Ciali$
Posted by: Mr. Bingley at January 30, 2008 12:24 PMI was wondering how long before someone picked up on that perfectly good straight line.
