Seriously? (SRSLY?) I've seen students in my non-majors class use some things from this in their homework. Like 'U' for "you" or "4" for "for."
It's almost gotten to the point where I don't write in all the corrections any more because of the amount of time it takes me. Very frustrating.
And here I thought I was going to have to learn Spanish to be able to communicate in my country in the future - nope, gotta learn Textspeak as well.
(Incidentally, trying to decipher the really "hardcore" textspeech - like NF's first sentence up there - gives me a headache. )

I will not text on cell phones (at most, I'll just send photos with a few words), and I loathe the texting shorthand. I'd rather use a stylus on a clay tablet.
And in school work or professional communications? No way!
