Chippy's Latest

Chippy McGuinness has written up her latest column. It's a compilation of her top ten moments in hockey history.

BUAWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Which part made me laugh? All of it.

Heh heh. What he said. Marvelous writeup, babe.

My only issue would be #5. I really hate to see rules changed on a singlet which may be an aberration. But I take the point.

Had not several minor league players been killed by pitches, I would have opposed the rule changes instituted after the death of Reverend Jim Ignatowski.

I didn't realize Chippy had a connection to Philly. (BTW I saw homemade "Let's Go Flyers" signs everywhere I went today. My dad thinks they are going to get creamed.)

A later edition will probably place Bettman's assassination via ice axe at the hands of Chippy McGuinness as #1.

Thanks, Jeff!

Ken,
It wasn't just that death. Players sustained a lot of head injuries that caused permanent damage, yet there really was a very tangible machismo about wearing helmets for a long time. A lot of guys that might have otherwise didn't for fear of being chastized as sissies. Bill Masterson was one of them. His last words before lapsing into a coma were "never again, never again." Indeed.

Kate,
The series is tied after two games. I don't have much hope, but Chippy is rooting herself hoarse.

Bill,
As if Chippy wouldn't plan careful enough to not get caught.

Of course she could plan it that way, but I figured she'd want the credit for the deed.

Bill,
Like a great artist whose work is never appreciated in their lifetime, she would most definitely arrange to make it known once she didn't have to face the consequences of her actions.

I figured there was probably more to it than just one death. And thanks for cleaning up the spam on the other post.

Oh gawd, Ken. I wanted to KILL THEM. Every time I would get it cleaned up, two more would appear. At least the dumbasses have started getting stupid and limiting their links to one post, which makes things easier for us.

Change is slow to come to hockey players in general. Jacques Plante had to fight his own coach to wear his facemask after getting beaned by Andy Bathgate; for a long time after there were still goalies who refused to wear them - in fact, all the way up to 1974, a fellow named Andy Brown tended the Pittsburgh nets unhatted. (You'd think that he'd keep a higher stance in those circumstances...)
