Ignorant hillbillies

Just now catching up on my reading, and realized I had forgotten to post about this on Sunday.

Now that the political contests have moved on to Kentucky and West Virginia, Instapundit notes that the media are filling up on stories about ignorant, disease-ridden hillbillies from inbred political backwaters.

When the Sainted Bride mentioned this story on Sunday, without even hearing where I knew it was either a ghetto or an upscale, lefty, earth-mama school.

Ken,
The link under "ignorant, disease-ridden hillbillies from inbred political backwaters" is to this site. Are you trying to tell us something? Or is that a jab at either Dave or me?

you know, I'm not a big fan of their's either, but that seems a rather harsh characterization of the Clintons, I mean I've not heard of them having any diseases...

I read one article on this, through Jules Crittenden, by some British snob. He first points out that the Democrats have not won the White House without winning West Virgina, and then proceeds to point out how the state Obama apparently needs to win is full of racist, ignorant, gun toting, white trash......who vote Democrat.

Go figure, huh?

Could somebody answer this for me - why can't Barack Obama win in the state that gave us Robert Byrd?

Alan, maybe because Barack doesn't have his name on almost all public buildings in the state?

Might be part of the reason, at least in recent years. Long term? Byrd's a panderer of the first degree. So is Obama, but Byrd's had more practice.

I'm from West Virginia, and it's my duty to say the whole "ignorant hillbillies" thing is pretty accurate, except we do appreciate the occasional antibiotic. Having just witnessed my high school reunion recently, I can attach any of those descriptives to any of my former classmates.
I moved out of state so I could marry outside my family tree.
